What Exactly Are Comptia Certifications

CompTIA certification may lead to increased job opportunities.


The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) is a nonprofit trade association serving the global information technology (IT) industry. The organization offers 11 vendor-neutral IT certifications, including CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Linux+, CompTIA PDI+, CompTIA CTT+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA CTP+ and CompTIA Project+.


CompTIA A+


The CompTIA A+ certification enables computer support technicians to prove their competence in areas such as preventive maintenance, networking, security and troubleshooting. Students must pass two exams to get certified: CompTIA A+ Essentials and CompTIA A+ Practical Application. To successfully pass each exam, a student must score 675 for CompTIA A+ Essentials and 700 for CompTIA A+ Practical Application, on a scale of 100 to 900.


CompTIA Network+


A CompTIA Network+ certification proves a networking technician is competent in managing, maintaining, troubleshooting, installing and configuring basic network infrastructure. Before attaining CompTIA Network+ certification, CompTIA recommends that students have nine months of network experience as well as CompTIA A+ certification. To successfully pass the CompTIA Network+ exam, a student must score 720 on a scale of 100 to 900.


CompTIA RFID+


The CompTIA RFID+ certification is for IT professionals with 6 to 24 months of experience in radio-frequency identification (RFID) technologies. CompTIA RFID+ certification proves an RFID technician's competence in installing, maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting the hardware and software functionality of RFID products. To successfully pass the CompTIA RFID+ exam, a student must score 630 on a scale of 100 to 900.


CompTIA CDIA+


The CompTIA Certified Document Imaging Architect (CDIA+) certification proves an imaging industry professional's competence in the technologies and best practices for planning, designing and specifying a document imaging management system. To successfully pass the CompTIA CDIA+ exam, a student must score 700 on a scale of 100 to 900.
