Report Tax Fraud Online

Tax fraud crimes may be punishable by a jail sentence.


Tax fraud could take on many forms. In fact, tax fraud can be difficult to identify, let alone prosecute. Nonetheless, one of the most effective ways the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) prosecutes this crime is by investigating various "tips" reported by the public. One IRS agency that plays a vital role in this struggle is Criminal Investigation (CI). Headquartered in Washington, DC, the agency, through its special agents, investigates suspected crimes that violate the Internal Revenue Code.


Instructions


1. Gather details of the suspected crime, such as the name and address of the suspect and any other relevant information that might help the IRS in its investigations.


2. Download Form 3949-A, Information Referral from the IRS website (see Resources).


3. Complete the form by typing directly into it. Print out the completed Form 3949-A and mail it to:
