Find a sponsor to cover your team's expenses.
Amateur sports teams are always looking for good sponsors to cover the expenses of uniforms, equipment, training, league fees and travel expenses. Finding the right sponsor takes some effort and focus -- and a little luck.
Instructions
1. Plan out exactly how much money you require and how you will spend it.
2. Draft a portfolio representing your team's key players, major accomplishments, plans or goals and photos. When satisfied with the final draft, organize it in the form of a resume and get a quality printout, including a high-resolution team picture. Also create on online version.
3. Create a list of potential sponsors that includes bars, small businesses or restaurants that operate near the area where you expect to play. It is a good idea to seek sponsorship from a restaurant, bar or other business that your team members frequent.
4. Send a letter or email detailing the needs of your team to the selected sponsors. Make sure that you include the number of players on your team, the amount of money you require and your team portfolio.
5. Call potential sponsors and try to speak with the person who has decision-making authority. Describe your team's past performance, areas where they excel and -- especially -- how their business will benefit. If they are interested, coordinate a face-to-face meeting to discuss details. Sounding passionate or excited about the sponsorship during the call and meeting can leave a good impression and engage the sponsor in conversation.
6. Take all supporting documents to the meeting, including the letter you posted or emailed, the portfolio and a proposed plan of the possible expenditures. Be creative and flexible with the options available to you so that you may be able to best accommodate your sponsor's needs. Assure them that you will support and promote their business as much as possible.
