Troubleshoot a Hewlett Packard Laptop
Learning troubleshoot your HP laptop computer is essential to helping you keep it in good running condition and avoiding expensive repairs. There are a lot of simple little things you can do when your computer goes on the fritz that typically don't involve spending a lot of money on repairs.
Instructions
1. Check the laptop's power. If your computer is running on the battery and is not turning on, you should immediately plug your laptop into the wall outlet. Use the plug and give your battery a few hours to charge. If the battery does not work after having adequate time to recharge, you may need to buy a new battery and replace the old one.
2. Check to make sure the computer is not overheating. One of the signs that your laptop could be overheating is if the computer turns on, but then instead of booting up its systems, it shuts off again by itself. You may need to take the HP laptop apart and make sure the fan is working properly. If not, you will need to purchase a new one and install it inside the laptop to keep it from overheating.
3. Clear your computer. If your Internet is running slow, you may need to delete all the files stored in your computer's history folder. Open up the Control Panel option from the start menu and then double click on the "Internet Options" icon. When the menu appears, delete all the temporary files from the computer.
4. Unscrew the keyboard and use some rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball to clean out the keyboard and the section underneath. If your keyboard keys are sticking, this is a sure fire way to clean all the sticky dirt, dust and grime that has accumulated.
5. Purchase some CD-ROM cleaner to clean the disc drivers on your computer. If you are getting disc error messages when you put CDs or other types of discs in your computer, you probably have a dirty lens. Using this product will help you to safely clean the laser lens.
