Create A Paper Lunch Bag

You can fold and tape your own paper lunch bag using only two sheets of paper.

While regular lunch bags are cheap to buy in bulk, creating you own bag pushes your creativity in using what ever type of paper you like. The designs are endless! Don't limit your bag creations to lunch; the same concept can be applied to creating your own gift bags as well. Plus, teaching kids make their own lunch bags can be a fun craft project that does not require a lot of supplies or create a mess.

Instructions

1. Tape or glue the length-wise sides of two pieces of paper together. Average letter size paper measuring 8.5 inches by 11 inches will work, but the finished product will end up being smaller than the average paper lunch bag. Instead, for a more suitable sized bag, use tabloid paper, that is 11 inches by 17 inches.

2. Fold in both sides of the paper that you taped, using the same width for both folds. The amount you fold in depends on how big you want your paper bag. For a skinnier bag, fold in less, for a bag that holds more food, make large folds.

3. Open up your folds so you are left with a square box-type design. Reverse your folds by tucking them into the bag, the opposite way you originally folded. The paper should once again be sitting flat on the table. Fold up the bottom of the paper. The size of your fold once again depends on how large you want the bottom of your bag to be. The bag should be starting to take on the shape of a lunch bag.

4. Spread the bottom of the bag that you folded open, keeping the rest of the bag flat against the table. Push both innermost sides of the bag down so that they form two small triangles pointing at each other. Then, fold the entire flap of both bottom sides down over top of the smaller triangles. You should be left with two large triangle-like pieces, facing away from each other, and with the tips missing.

5. Fold both the top and bottom flaps of the bottom of the bag in until they meet at the crease in the middle. Ensure that one flap slightly overlaps the other. Tape along the whole bottom of the bag so that all four flaps you have created are held in place. One long strip of tape along the middle of the bottom should do the trick. Open up the bag, it is ready to be used.
