1. Decide what you want on your car sticker. Common stickers feature the name of a team, a witty joke, phrase, slogan, or a logo.

2. Visit a website that specializes in creating car magnets to design your personalized magnet. Browse through the templates to find a base for your design; or start from scratch, by choosing the colors, text and pictures for your magnetic sticker. Order the magnet and wait for it to arrive in the mail.

3. Use a scrap piece of paper -- or a sheet of tracing paper -- to make a sketch of your idea: Then transfer it to the magnetic sheet.

4. Use photo editing software, like Adobe Photoshop; Draw an image from scratch -- type out a phrase in stylized font -- or edit an existing photo.

5. Print the design on a printer-compatible magnetic sheet. You can locate your printer's exact specifications -- for handling magnetic sheets -- by looking on, or in the packaging.

6. Use scissors, or a utility knife, to cut your magnetic sticker into the shape you desire. Follow the perforations, if you simply want a rectangular sticker; or get creative.

7. Apply a layer of clear contact paper to your magnet, to prevent weatherization or fading. Allow it to dry overnight.

8. Apply the magnet to a clean, dry location on your car. Remove it every once in a while, to check for dirt buildup under the magnet, and to clean your car.
