Your paper can also have a multiple theory focus. In this case you would either give an overview of numerous problem solving theories, or you would compare and contrast two theories in depth.
2. Focus your papers on the characteristics of the individual. For example, you can focus your paper on how age impacts the type of problem solving strategies that are used or you can examine how the sex of the individual impacts the type of problem solving strategies that you are using.
3. Take a look at how animals solve problems. In this type of thesis focus on a specific specie or breed of animal. For example, you can examine how dogs in general or collies in particular problem solve. You can also compare and contrast how different animals solve problems differently. For example, you can compare how dogs solve problems differently than primates.
4. Compare and contrast how animals solve problems differently than humans. This can be a very complex topic for a college paper, so you will need to select a very succinct thesis statement. For example, you can focus your paper on the different problem solving strategies used by human toddlers compared to the problem solving strategies used by chimpanzees of the same age.
