Gwf Compatible Fridges

GWF filters water dispensed from refrigerators.

GWF refers to a filter that was formerly manufactured by General Electric (GE) for its SmartWater water filtration system. This system can be found built into their refrigerator or as an add-on to an existing model. The filter has now been replaced by a new filter named MWF. The new filter is compatible with all systems using the GWF. Several refrigerator models are manufactured that are compatible with the GWF system.

General Electric

All GE model refrigerators that have a water filtration system are compatible with the GWF, now MWF, water filtration system. An example of such a refrigerator is the GE Profile 48-inch built-in side-by-side refrigerator with electronic dispenser. The purpose of the GWF is to purify the water dispensed from the front. According to GE, the system, now improved with the MWF, reduces waterborne contaminants and needs to be replaced every six months.

Hotpoint

The Hotpoint 25.0 cubic foot side-by-side refrigerator with dispenser comes factory equipped with the GE water filtration system. According to Hotpoint, the filter reduces contaminants and odors in household water and removes numerous impurities including chlorine, lead, mercury, asbestos and some herbicides and pesticides.

Kenmore

All Kenmore 363 series refrigerators were manufactured by GE, and, if factory equipped with a water filtration system, are compatible with GWF. The Sears part number for the filter is 9905 but has been updated in the Sears part inventory to supply a new GE MWF SmartWater filter. The new filter will be compatible with the old Kenmore refrigerator. The GE filter works the same way in the Kenmore as in the GE and Hotpoint models and will yield the same results.
