In architecture, a building's footing forms part of its foundation. A slab of concrete distributes the building's weight over a larger area, often transferring the force to underlying bedrock. Calculating concrete footing means calculating the cubic yardage of concrete that you need to produce the necessary slabs. You can derive this figure from the proposed slab's dimensions.
Instructions
1. Divide the slab's length, in inches, by 12 to convert it to feet. For example, if the slab will measure 80 inches: 80 / 12 = 6.66 feet
2. Divide the slab's width, in inches, by 12 to convert it to feet. If the slab will measure 92 inches across: 92 / 12 = 7.66 feet
3. Divide the slab's depth, in inches, by 12 to convert it to feet. If the slab will measure 24 inches in depth: 24 / 12 = 2 feet
4. Multiply the length, width and depth together: So in this example, 6.66 * 7.66 * 2 = 102 cubic feet
5. Divide your answer by 27 to convert to cubic yards. 102 / 27 = 3.79 cubic yards
