Selling advertising space is a way for a website owner to monetize the site using the traffic that already exists. The higher the number of readers a site gets each month, the more advertisers a website owner will have to choose from, and the more those advertisers will pay for an advertising spot on the site.
Instructions
1. Ask for advertisers on your site. By placing a small notice on the site that you are looking for advertisers, you may be able to sign advertisers directly without having to pay a commission to anyone else. This allows you to negotiate directly with the advertisers and to dictate your own terms such as the ad size and the duration of the advertising term.
2. Sign up for pay-per-click advertising such as AdSense and Kontera. These pay you each time someone clicks on one of the ads to visit the advertiser's site. It is free to sign up for these sites, and your site doesn't need a minimum traffic count to qualify.
3. Apply to a third-party site that brings website owners and advertisers together. Most of these sites have some requirements for joining. These may include a minimum page rank for the site or a minimum traffic count per month. The amount of traffic and the site's page rank often dictate the amount that a client will pay for advertising when one of these sites is used. Some sites, such as TextLinkAds, pay a set amount per ad for a set ad space per month. Other sites, such as BlogAds, give advertisers a choice between custom campaigns or more standard ad sizing and pricing.
4. Auction off website ad space on online auction sites. Many website owners use Bidtopia or eBid auctions for ad space to both draw attention to their websites and to find new advertisers when there is advertising space available.
