Send Money Towards The Usa From India

You can send U.S. dollars and the recipient can take out rupees at the day's exchange rate.

Thanks to today's technology, anyone can easily and quickly send money from India to the United States. You can make money transfers or remittances immediately or within a couple days to anywhere in India with a bank or an Internet connection.

Instructions

Making a Wire Transfer

1. Go to the branch of the wire transfer company and state your full name as it appears on an official ID (state ID, driver's license or passport), show your identification and give them the money. For wire transfers, you must use cash.

2. Tell the wire transfer company the name of the recipient (the name must be exactly the same as appears on the recipient's identification--confirm this with the recipient before wiring money) and the city or town you wish to send the money to.

3. Pay the company a commission and the money will be available in India in 24 hours. The recipient must go to a branch of the company, state their name and yours and show appropriate identification in order to receive the transfer.

4. Use a international money transfer website to send money to India using your credit or debit card. There are several websites, such as Sendmoneyindia.org, that set up money transfers online; they work similarly to wire transfers, but usually charge lower commissions and accept credit and debit cards. Some send local checks in rupees to the recipient, while others do direct deposit into the recipient's bank account.

Personal Checks

5. Write out a personal check (on a check issued your bank in the U.S.) to the recipient in India. The recipient's name on the check should be exactly how it appears on the recipient's official identification.

6. Mail the check via certified mail to the recipient. You can also mail a cashier's check, available at post offices or banks, which may be easier for the recipient to cash.

7. Instruct the recipient to either deposit the check into their savings account in person or try to cash the check at their local bank. (State Bank of India is ideal, as they have offices in the U.S. and take less time to verify the authenticity of personal checks.) This process can take weeks while the bank certifies the authenticity of the check, but the advantage is that you can skip over the third-party transfer company.
